Today my wife Tracey and my youngest daughter Mary both completed a half marathon.
When you're fat, running can be a challenge.
Like, “I'm trying to move my obese self at faster than a casual walk,” challenge.
So it helps to have people you know to look up to, who you can aspire to someday keep up with.
And today, for me that would be my wife Tracey and my daughter Mary.
In order to understand a little of what they would face today, after I ran my thirty minutes this morning at 5.5 mph, I kept running until I crossed over the sixty minute mark.
Unfortunately, my impromptu 61 minute run only resulted in an unimpressive 5.1+ miles, however it did help me get a better appreciation for the three hours Tracy and Mary would later run.
I'm not alone in my admiration, as I was joined by my daughter Sarah, and my two grandkids Alexis and Liam, and Mary's fiancé Nick.
All five of us are extremely proud of our loved ones, who decided months ago to take on this challenge.
In retrospect, I wish I had trained and run with them.
Hopefully if they ever do it again I'll get a chance to join them, however after my 61 minute run this morning I know I'll need a lot of prep to get ready.
That said, after way too long off from running, I finally got back on the treadmill this morning and got in a 61 minute, 5.1+ mile run (number twenty four) allowing me to say…
Today's score is: Shawn 1, Couch 0.
And today's stats are: Time 61m, Dist 5.1+
